Workshops / Photography Lessons
What they're saying...
"You are an excellent educator with a very calm and knowledgeable way of teaching us at our level. I came out of that lesson inspired and excited to push my photography skills further."
"You’re such a great teacher
(and that’s coming from a teacher)."
"Professional, informative, helpful and wonderful to be catered to our starting needs."
"I've had others try to teach me the exact same concept, but the way you showed me really made it click."
"You just made my crazy brain so, so happy. I can finally see all (or most) of the puzzle pieces and time and practice will help put it all together. Thank you for creating a space for me to feel comfortable with asking you questions."
I would strongly recommend Helen if you want to learn the habits and habitats of Algonquin Park wildlife subjects. This workshop with Helen will elevate your portraits of animals with patience in your approach, and gain a more intimate understanding of their behavioral patterns. Thanks H.

Designed for those who have a digital camera to which different lenses can be attached (called a dSLR or now mirrorless, also), but are true beginners. Let me help you learn your way around your camera and how to change the settings to get the results you want. I'll start by teaching you the components that go into making an image – primarily aperture, shutter speed and ISO. They may not make sense now, but they will when we’re done! Those technical aspects will give you a good foundation before we discuss some of the more artistic elements that will help you translate what you see into an image you'd be proud to hang on your wall.

4 hours of one-on-one instruction with your digital camera at one of Muskoka's beautiful waterfalls.
Waterfall photography is an art in itself. In this course, you'll learn how changing your settings can create dramatic results, from freezing the water's motion to creating a soft, silky effect. You'll also learn tips and trick for creating images with impact and how accessories can help you achieve different results.
This course is suitable for those who have at least a basic understanding of how to operate their camera. If you're interested in this course and are a "complete beginner", I'd recommend looking at my Photography Fundamentals course, which offers a field trip to a waterfall in the 3rd session!
