FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What time do we start & finish?
The adventure is approximately 3--4 hours. Times depend on the trail(s) hiked, pace of hiking, and any travel to/from the trailhead.
Morning Experience: 8 a.m. start, finishing by 12 noon
Afternoon Experience: 2 p.m. start, finishing by 6 p.m.
Evening Experience (available seasonally): 5:30 p.m., finishing by 8:30 p.m.
Do I need to know how to hike?
Hiking is just walking in the woods! No technical hiking experience is necessary -- you just need to wear comfortable footwear suitable for walking on uneven terrain (not sandals, heels, or flip-flops), and bring your curiosity, and a willingness to explore!
Is this experience accessible?
As each experience is designed around you, please be upfront with us in the questionnaire so we can make it a comfortable experience for you. Algonquin Park does have a couple of trails that are more accessible than others.
What do you recommend for footwear?
Hiking boots, hiking shoes, or running shoes (trainers/sneakers/tennis shoes) are best, but any closed-toe shoes that fit snuggly and have good tread will do. While we won't be doing any technical trails, all trails have hazards such as roots, rocks, a bit of elevation, and potentially mud.
What do we do for bathroom breaks?
There are no "washroom facilities" on the trail, so please be prepared (mentally & physically) to go "al fresco" and use a tree -- and pack out all garbage, including used toilet paper. Bring toilet paper in a sealable sandwich bag and use a second sealable bag for used toilet paper. There are vault toilets at most trailheads, but I always recommend you take advantage of the facilities at your accommodation provider before heading into the park.
When do you offer this adventure?
This experience is offered year-round.
What about bad weather?
Adventures take place rain, snow, or shine! In the event it is unsafe to be outside (thunderstorm), we will discuss postponing or rescheduling on a case-by-case basis.
What wildlife will we see?
It is possible to see any wildlife on this trip that might be found in the park: moose, bears, wolves, lynx, white tailed deer, river otters, beavers, muskrats, common loons, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, painted and snapping turtles, and various other birds, and insects. While every effort is made to find wildlife, there are many factors outside of our control and, therefore, no guarantees are made.
Please note: all participants are required to sign a release, indemnity, non-disclosure & non-compete agreement. Participants will not disclose, or take others to, the locations we visit, nor may they offer lessons, workshops, tours, or similar activities in the area. Participants may not engage in behaviour that disturbs or harasses wildlife, such as baiting, luring, or flushing. Any such behaviour will result in the adventure ending immediately, with no refund. Part of enjoying nature means respecting wildlife, and the environment in which they live.
